How to Make a Twig Tree

When I saw this twig tree at my local Target, I really wanted to buy it.  But I just could not bring myself to spend that much money on what I knew I could do myself for far less.  We just happen to be getting ready to trim a bush so the timing could not have been better.  I went down to the craft store and got a cardboard cone ($2) and pulled out my glue gun and gardening shears and I was set!  See how I did it below.

Homemade Twig Tree

What You Will Need:

  • Cardboard Cone
  • Glue Gun
  • Garden Scissors (for cutting twigs)
  • Twigs
How to Assemble: 
  • Simply cut several small twigs into pieces (approx. 3 inches long)
  • Start gluing larger twigs around the base of cone
  • Work you way up, overlapping the twigs and filling in blank spaces
  • When you get close to top, form your peak
  • Fill in rest of blank spaces
  • Use really small twig pieces to add dimension and fill gaps
  • OPTIONAL:  I chose to leave mine natural, but you could spray it silver or gold, or use artificial snow spray.
