Simple Vegan TVP Tacos

What can you feed the meat eaters when they come to visit but stick to your diet?  Easy!  Try simple vegan TVP tacos.  Never had TVP (textured vegetable protein)?  Well it is a dehydrated soy product that you can find in different flavors including chicken, sausage and beef.  For this recipe, if you can use plain, unseasoned TVP as it tends to pick up flavor in what you rehydrate it in, so the taco seasoning does more than a good enough job.  

This is actually a lot faster than cooking with real beef as it doesn’t take long for the TVP to hydrate so dinner is ready in just minutes.  You will be surprised that your meat eating friends will probably not even know the difference if you don’t tell them.  I’d love to hear if you try and sneak it past them!

Vegan TVP Tacos
A quick and easy vegan meal

  1. 1/2 Cup TVP
  2. 1 Cup Water
  3. Taco Seasoning Packet
  4. Tortillas
  5. Onion
  6. Lettuce
  7. Tomatoes
  8. Vegan Cheese (Daiya Shreds)
  1. Hydrate the TVP in the 1 Cup of water for about 5 minutes.
  2. Drain from water.
  3. Mix taco seasoning with appropriate amount of water from packet directions.
  4. Bring to a simmer and pour in the hydrated TVP
  5. Cook down until sauce is thickened.
  6. Build your taco!

This is even an easy enough recipe for a kids cooking night.  Make it a family affair!  Top it with whatever fixins’ you like best!  Just an FYI – my favorite Vegan Cheese is Daiya Chedder Shreds!
