The Unexpected Side Effects of Becoming a “Vegevegan”

Since we changed our diet to mostly Vegan with a hint of Vegetarian from time to time, a lot has changed.  The expected stuff happened:  losing weight, cholesterol went down, tastes changed.  Then, so much more happened too, in my opinion, entirely because we changed what we eat.

We first really noticed this a few weeks ago because it’s summer and we have been traveling.  As anyone on a diet in America knows, when you are on a diet, it is hard to find the right foods easily.  So what happened, is that instead of pulling off at the nearest fast food joint, rollin’ thru the drive thru and eating uber unhealthy food in the car on the go, we are now moving at a slower pace.  Taking the time to pull a little further off the road.  Venture into small towns.  Exploring the cities, in search of unique places to eat that serve up healthier Vegan and Vegetarian options.  They are there.  You just have to take the TIME!

We have discovered more than just GOOD FOOD in these towns.  We discovered HISTORY.  We discovered BEAUTY.  We discovered FRIENDS.  We discovered FAMILY.  We discovered LIFE.

If you are willing to spend a little extra time, when you are searching for your next great meal, taking the scenic route, you will also find a lot of great people and a lot of fun things in all these little towns you never knew you were there. Besides that, you get to spend time with the ones you love most, and that…you can never get enough of.

A few of the great places we have been lately:
The Garden Vegan Cafe in Walla Walla, WA
Alexanders Chocolates in Dayton, WA
Sisters Cafe in Pendleton, OR
Plateau at Wildhorse Casino in Pendleton, OR
Little Cheerful in Bellingham, WA
Earl’s in Vancouver, BC
and another wonderful Italian Pizzeria in Vancouver, BC that I don’t remember the name of =(
Nicki Jeans in West Richland, WA (will be changing name soon)
Zinful Wine Bar in Kennewick, WA
Mezzo Thai in Richland, WA
Sixth Street Coffee in Prosser, WA
These are just a few of the great places we have eaten lately and can’t wait to explore and find more!

  1. Great post! It’s amazing the things you learn when you take the time to really think about what you eat. It’s amazing how so many people are on autopilot when it comes to food!
